Notes from the Chair

Hello Fellow GC Dems!

Well, we’re moving quickly forward into 2024! Going to be another whirlwind of a year! We do have a few updates for everyone so hang on and off we go!

Reorganization of the Kentucky Democratic Party:
The normal reorganization of the party is done every four years–until COVID hit, then it was five. While normally, we would be reorging this year, it has been discussed for a while to have it in 2025. The decision seems to have been made to move to 2025 and plans are being developed how to do this even as we communicate here! A big factor taken into consideration was how the normal reorg was done during a presidential campaign year and was way more confusing than necessary. So, we will be updating as we go on how this will be done and what we need to do.

Elections this year:
Yes, there IS an election this year AND a primary! While we do not have anyone to note in the primary–we do not (again! ) have a 61st rep candidate, but we DO have one for the 17th senate! Our senatorial candidate’s name is Kiana Fields. She is from Georgetown will be coming to a GCD meeting in the near future so we can meet and get to know her.

Poll Workers needed:
Also on that note, with the primary coming up (and remember we DO have more than one candidate in the presidential race so do have skin in that game!) in May, we need to have our Poll Worker recommendations in to Tabatha NLT 3/25/24. We need at least 40 folks who are willing to work the polls. Bear in mind, poll workers are needed at the Library and then again on Election Day. Sometimes, you can have a preference and not have to work more than one day, but if there are not enough people, it will be all hands on deck and multiple days. AND if we do not have enough Democrats, the County Clerk will have to fill in with non-Dems. So, it behooves us to be sure to have enough volunteers!
Here is the voting schedule:
May 15 – Last Day for poll worker name submittals by Party
April 6 – online Absentee Portal Opens, Closes May 7
May 8-10 and 13-15, Excused Absentee Voting at the Grant County Clerk’s Office
May 16-18, Early Voting at the Grant County Library
May 21, Election Day

Members Welcome:
Want to remind everyone that EVERYONE is welcome to our meetings. While we prefer a lot of times to have Democrats, anyone that agrees with our platform and our views–or are just curious and want to make a positive difference–is welcome! Our business meetings are at 7:00 PM the 4th Tuesday of each month at the Williamstown Senior Center, 400 North Main Street. We have a Snack ‘n Chat before the meeting which starts around 6:30 were we can talk about whatever floats our boats at that time so come early and meet ‘n greet.

Meeting Agendas:
If you would like to have something added to the meeting agenda or if you have an idea you would like to pitch to the group, feel free to contact us and let us know. We’ll get you on the agenda.

Getting the word out:
We want to know what the Democrats of Grant County want and need! Plus, we need folks to be involved. Apathy, ennui, anger and fear are ruling these days and, as everyone knows, nothing positive can get done with that environment. So, we are reaching out to all in Grant County who want betterment for our cities, the county as well as the state and country. Want to make a difference? Come to our meetings, write the paper, post on Social Media and feel free to share this email, our email address, our webpage and social media! We are here for you, but we have to know what you need and want. Democrats need to stand up and step forward and, as ALWAYS VOTE!!
