KDP Chronicle Edition #3

SEPTEMBER 27, 2024 | EDITION #3

Fellow Democrats,

With less than 40 days until Election Day, now is the time to take action. Here at the KDP, we’ve been working hard to elect Democrats up and down the ballot–including our first Madam President–and to provide candidates, county parties and volunteers the support they need to win. Keep reading to find out what we’ve been up to, and what YOU can do to help protect our Kentucky values this November.

Public Dollars Shouldn’t Go to Private Schools:
“NO” on Amendment 2

Former teacher and assistant principal, Lt. Governor Jacqueline Coleman understands the absolutely devastating impact that sending public money to private schools would have on communities across the Commonwealth. Speaking to the media at a KDP press conference alongside House Democratic Caucus Chair Cherlynn Stevenson (HD 88) and KDP Chair Colmon Elridge, Lt. Governor Coleman highlighted the years-long effort to underfund our public schools, hurting kids, teachers and staff along the way.

Now, instead of giving our students and teachers the tools they need to succeed, they want to pad the pockets of private corporations by sending public money to unaccountable private schools, robbing our communities of millions of dollars and hundreds of jobs.

As the Lt. Governor says, we don’t just need to defeat Amendment 2, but we also must defeat the people who voted to put it on the ballot in the first place. Click here for more information about how to canvass or phone bank for Protect Our Schools KY, and don’t forget to use our Amendment 2 toolkit to help you with messaging, letters to the editor and more. We can’t take this vote, or our public schools, for granted.

Upcoming Training for County Parties + Candidates

Whether we’re supporting Vice President Harris and Governor Walz, legislative candidates or simply highlighting the bad policies championed by the GOP, our message only matters if people see it. One of the easiest and most cost-effective ways to get these messages out to voters? Social media.

On Monday, September 30 at 6:15 PM EST, the KDP will have a virtual training session to help educate every county party and candidate on the importance of having an active presence on social media, how to create content that gets voters’ attention, and how often you should share content to get the most voter engagement. We’ll also be discussing how to interact with traditional media, too. Clarissa Fisher, our KDP Digital Director, can provide more information on this training, and she can be reached at clarissa@kydemocrats.org.

Candidates Need Your Help

Sound like a broken record? That’s a chance I’m willing to take, because Democratic candidates need your help to win! While social media and postcards are low cost and low effort, the BEST way to help our candidates win is to TALK DIRECTLY to voters!

From now until Election Day, we need every able Democrat knocking doors, making phone calls or sending texts for our candidates. Please reach out to a candidate in your area and ask how you can help. You can also check out our events page or fill out a volunteer form (sent directly to candidates and county parties). I hope to see each of you out on the campaign trail!

Here’s Your Sign to Support Harris Walz

The KDP – and the DNC! – have heard your calls, and we are excited to announce an upcoming delivery of 5,000 Harris Walz yard signs directly from the Harris campaign! We will be in touch with a regional delivery plan and allocation information. But, remember: signs don’t vote or persuade voters–only you can do that!

With that final “do something” plug, I’ll leave you to it. As always, thank you for your commitment to Democratic values and to the belief that every Kentucky family deserves a brighter future.
