Hello All!
Hopefully Hurricane/Tropical Depression/Storm Francine will be nice and drop some rain on us this weekend–we can surely use it! Being under a burn ban nearly two months early is not only a bummer, but a bit unnerving.
So much has happened in such a short amount of time, hasn’t it?? Joe stepped aside and Kamala stepped in; trump keeps stepping inTO it and his supporters are getting more and more radical as those with any sanity are distancing. But, he and his evil-but-smart VP, JD Vance are still a viable and very, very real threat to us and to our country as a whole. This makes it more imperative than ever that we must all get out and vote in November.
Even here at home, we have such inane issues from the disfunction and confusion of Williamstown to the broke and seeking funds of the County. And, if you look at those running for the city seats, there are few, if any changes. So, if anyone would be interested in running as a write-in candidate the deadline is Friday, October 25 (local races at the local clerk’s office and state/federal at the Secretary of State’s Office in Frankfort) at 4 p.m. . The deadline to register to vote for the 2024 election is October 7 at 4 p.m. We can offer informal technical assistance for any of these.
There are two constitutional amendments on the ballot this year. They are both MAGA dog whistle issues that truly have no place in our Commonwealth:
– Amendment 1 proposed to change the Kentucky Constitution to “prohibit” “non-citizens” from voting in Kentucky. (Hint, this is already a federal requirement).
– Amendment 2 proposes to allow public monies to fund private (and home and charter and religious schools, etc.). So, your tax dollars go north and south (because we won’t have charter schools here) with the kids and deprive local schools and poor people from having a solid education.
Here is the info/verbiage of these amendments: 2024 Constitutional Amendments – Secretary of State (ky.gov)
WE HAVE HARRIS WALZ SIGNS! We paid $5 each and though we are handing them out free, donations are certainly welcome! Right now, we have about 20 left, but we’ll be picking more up next week. Free, we ask to limit to one; with donations, unless you have sure places for them please limit to three or less. We just want to make sure they get out there!!
A couple important dates:
– SEPTEMBER 19 our next meeting at the Senior Center. We are meeting early so we can plan for the 9/21 Marigold Day and the 10/3 Kiana Fields Meet ‘n Greet/fundraiser; both at the Senior Center. We also need to plan out the distribution days at each City so we can get signs and information out to the public. We want to do at least one in each of the Cities of the County. Anyone wanting to do door knocking, be sure to come to the meeting and we’ll get this organized, too!
– OCTOBER 3 is Kiana Field’s Meet ‘n Greet which will be held sometime between 4 p.m. and 8 p.m.at the Senior Center. Senator Reggie Thomas is coming and we are hoping to get a few more luminaries of the Party there. If you know anyone that would like to play a bit of music (free or really cheap) please see if they would be interested. ALSO, this will be a potluck by the GC Dems so if you have a favorite side dish you’d like to bring–please come to the meeting and help us get organized! (FYI, Porkbutt is being done, potato salad is claimed and an uber good dessert is already slated! So put your thinking caps on and come prepared with a couple three ideas of what you’d like to make!)
That’s about all for now. Hope to see you soon!
